This museum was set up where the Stax records label (1958-74) used to operate... House for musicians like Otis Redding, Albert King, Isaac Hayes, Ike and Tina Turner, it was The Memphis soul spirit, competitor with Motown (Detroit) and Atlantic (Harlem, NY), but with the particularity to host black and white artists together... A political and social phenomenon as well.
The control room... The studios opened in 1960 in a place which was a Theater giving western and country shows... a business that declined when the neighborhood turned from white to mainly black people.
The music produced at Stax Records had an influence on the Beatles, Rolling Stones, a lot of reggae and hip hop artists as well... A lot of famous tracks of popular music have their roots there...
The 26.000 USD Cadillac (with TV, minibar and gold a bit everywhere) that Isacc Hayes bought thanks to the money he earned with the "Theme from Shaft", early 70s... His "bling bling" style was somewhat criticized
